Pirelli to unveil new development rear tyre for WorldSBK’s demanding Czech Round
A new medium development rear tyre will provide another option to teams
The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship is mere days away from taking to the Autodrom Most for three thrilling days of action on track in the Czech Round. The circuit’s unique layout, with high-speed corners that flow together and are punctuated by heavy braking zones, has earned it a reputation as one that rewards disciplined tyre management.
REAR TYRE SOLUTIONS: All-new F0468 medium rear specification, SC0 instead of SCX or SCQ
At Most, rear grip is at a premium and joining the standard SC0 soft rear compound available for Superpole sessions and races, as well as Free Practice, a pair of medium tyres will be available. The new F0468 tyre is an all-new rear medium option, making its debut at Most. The new specification uses the same compound as the development D0922, already used at Most and Phillip Island in the last two seasons, but the F0468 uses a new structure designed to improve consistency over the race distance and improve stability. Both tyres are SC1 mediums but represent a further step in tyre technology. The F0468 is an evolution of the E0829, which was already brought to Phillip Island this year. The D0922 represents an alternative to the new tyre, with proven characteristics for the demanding circuit. Further augmenting their allotment, teams will have intermediate and full wet tyres should the rain prove them necessary.
FRONT TYRE SOLUTIONS: Two options on the front wheel
The front wheel has comparatively fewer options. WorldSBK riders and their teams will have the choice between the soft SC1 specification and the medium SC2 solution for the front axle to deal with the track, which Pirelli deems a 9 out of 10 in tyre stress, spread over nine left-hand corners and 12 right-handers. Similar to on the rear, all riders will have wet and intermediate tyres available.
WORLD SUPERSPORT ALLOCATIONS: TWO SPECIFICATIONS PER AXLE
World Supersport joins WorldSBK in Round 5, and the category will have the choice between the medium SC2 tyre or the soft SC1 on the front. On the rear, riders will have the choice between the soft SC0 and the medium SC1. Similar to WorldSBK, the WorldSSP field will have access to wet and intermediate tyres should weather prove necessary.
TYRE ADAPTATIONS: “Some circuits are particularly severe for the tyres, such as Phillip Island and Most, which, due to their configuration and intrinsic characteristics, require more specific solutions and more resistant compounds”
On their proposed solutions for Most, Pirelli’s Motorcycle Racing Director Giorgio Barbier said: "In over two decades of supplying the Superbike World Championship, Pirelli has built an extremely solid and versatile range of tyres. The supersoft SCX rear solution is now an absolute reference for riders and is used in most races on the calendar, with the soft SC0 becoming a valid alternative on some occasions. However, there are some circuits that are particularly severe for the tyres, such as Phillip Island and Most, which, due to their configuration and intrinsic characteristics, require more specific solutions and more resistant compounds, typically medium. In these cases, the development activity focuses on improving key parameters such as performance and consistency over the race distance: objectives that guided the design of the new rear solution in the F0468 specification. To complete the allocation, the drivers will also have the D0922 option, already widely tested, which has proven effective at dealing with the particular stresses imposed by this track. It will be interesting to see if the new medium F0468 will be able to further improve the performance level of the D0922."
